Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre
The exhibition ZEIGEN. An Audio Tour through Copenhagen by Karin Sander brings together all artists associated to Copenhagen, or to Denmark, respectively. The internationally renowned German artist Karin Sander has invited each of them to produce a sound piece, mostly suggesting something visual. Sander has not defined any limiting requirements. Thus, the varied audio pieces are the result of an artistic process themselves, which becomes “visible” in this exhibition.
The works will be presented at the Upper Gallery of Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre. The staging of the show follows Karin Sander’s concept: The names of the participating artists applied to the walls, visitors can experience the sound works by selecting tracks by numbers in audio guides.
The entire space becomes kind of a projection screen for the listeners’ imagination, where he / she can conceive his or her individual exhibition and thus examine the complex relations between artwork, institution and viewer.
Among the participating artists are established, but also emerging names, all of which are invited to this exhibition by Karin Sander in collaboration with Nikolaj Kunsthal, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre, and external curator Michael Thouber, Head of the TV channel “DR2” of the Danish broadcasting corporation.
ZEIGEN has been realised in previous instances such as Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, and Reykjavik.
